The Homeless Services Coordinator of Pomona oversees the services provided to the homeless people of the city. There are several Homeless Assistance Programs available to the city of Pomona including the Pomona Continuum of Care Coalition, which was established in 1999. This organization provides opportunities for agencies to work together to address the homelessness issue. Over forty agencies, organizations, and county departments are involved in the coalition as well as formerly homeless and concerned citizens. The collaborative effort provides homeless and at-risk citizens the support that they need to reach stability.

Pomona’s Continuum of Care is organized to deliver housing and services that meet specific needs of the people who are homeless in the community. Funding sources including the Emergency Shelter Grant, Shelter Plus Care, Supportive Housing Program, the Section 8 program, and the Community Development Block Grant have helped made the program possible. Emergency, transitional, and permanent forms of housing have been provided. These programs, provided with other programs and funding, can make an impact on the homeless community.

​The homeless population is an immense issue for the City of Pomona and it is one that must be solved. However, until the city builds enough facilities to house every single homeless person in Pomona, there is nothing that anyone can do. The city is at a standstill and the homeless population is only growing. Surrounding cities are allegedly bringing their homeless population to Pomona because it is somewhere that accepts homeless people with open arms. Pomona residents and their families are forced to deal with homeless people in every part of the city on a daily basis and it hampers their usage of certain public areas, especially parks. Homeless assistance programs such as Pomona’s Continuum of Care Coalition are in operation to try and solve the homeless problem by working together as a community. They are successful at providing support to those in need so that they become stable. Raising awareness of the homeless problem is the best thing that someone can do to help solve the homeless issue in Pomona.
